An oak nearby Bohušov
At the end of the village, just behind the narrow-gauge railway crossing towards Hrozová, a memorial oak tree is located. Its stem height is 22 m.
An oak (Quercus robur), in Czech language called “křemelák”, is a massive broadleaf tree of a beech family. Naturally, it occurs in Europe, Asia Minor, Caucasus and some areas of Noth Africa. The range of occurrence is from lowlands to foothills, where it may form oak woods or it grows as a solitaire. As it grows in forests, it easily looses its bottom branches.
The treetop is very mighty, irregular and burly, elongated towards the top.
“Křemelák” blooms in April or May. The fruit is an acorn (a monospermous achene) sitting in a goblet. The peduncle is long from 3 to 7 cm.
The oak may reach the length of 45 m. It is able to grow up in almost any type of soil, a sandy and wet clayey soil included. Its roots are very deep and may be linked with a groundwater. This is the reason why this tree suffers from a lightning strike more often than other trees. It is highly wind resistable. It accepts better climate changes than durmast oak.
